Getting baptized is an important first step for a Christian. It is an outward symbol of the inner commitment to Jesus. Because of this, we throw a big ol’ party whenever someone in the Crossroads family gets baptized.
What is it?
Baptism does not make you a believer. It is a public declaration that you already are one! Baptism does not “save” you. Only your faith in Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring—it is an outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.
Crossroads typically baptizes by immersion. The Greek work “baptize,” means “to immerse or to dip under water.” It is the best way to symbolize a burial and resurrection.
Who can be baptized?
Every person who has believed in Christ. The one requirement for baptism is belief in Christ. We do not baptize children until they are old enough to understand and believe. To make sure kids are ready, we have them go through a special baptism class to prepare them for the big day.
Why should I be baptized?
- Because you want to follow the example set by Christ (Mark 1:9)
- Because Christ commands it. (Matthew 28:19-20)
- Because it shows that you are a believer. (Acts 18:8)
